Look Up! Look Down! Look all Around! Holy Culebraized!

Walking into town today, I was suddenly struck by how insanely blue the sky was and how beautiful the clouds were, with their zizzing shapes of wind made visible.

In town itself, I first attributed the extreme quiet and empty streets to Sunday morning-ness. But when I got to the cart, there were a few guys standing in the street and a rumbling sound coming our way. As it turned out, all the

Elephant Seal and Water Moon

This video just felt really Sunday to me. I tried to imagine myself in this and realized I would have not been anywhere as cool and calm as this woman...therein lies the lesson. Or maybe there is no lesson at all, except Be. Which is not a small thing... Thanks, Frank, for sending this along.

And that was Friday, Culebra Time

I was walking into town yesterday
When I was picked up by jeep of Fay
He was recycling tourist trash
and his honor wasn’t crashed
then we went to drink the night away

That’s not quite how it happened...but that’s how the song went by the end of the night. Thanks, George and Jane! Thanks, Susie and crew!

Culebra Free Range Friday - From Here to There

First, if you have forgotten, the Sisters' Flea Market is today, in town at the corner by Hotel Puerto Rico. Get there early; this is a popular event and early is better. Double the pleasure, the veggie guy is going to set up there as well this morning, so you can have a one stop shopping experience, see your friends and neighbors, benefit the community via the Sisters' charity, and benefit

Look what I found!!!!!

If you love singing and music as much as I do ,you probably get curious as to whether a singer is soprano or alto or what!  By chance I found this  a list of female singers and  their  voice types.  Now, you may disagree with some of them but, I highly doubt it. It is an awesome list and I was so happy to find it !!!!

A very surprising Culebra thing..maybe even a miracle

It isn't often things like this happen. About as often as unicorns show up in the middle of Rodeo Drive in LA. Oh...that happened last week? Sorry. But I got this in my email and had to share it with you all...life is short and miracles are few and far between. Are you ready?

How Do We See What We See?

I was walking on the little stony beach at the bottom of my yard yesterday, avoiding thinking about politics, lunatics, rhetorics, and just plain icks. A not very difficult task when at my feet are rustic Nature jewels of varying sizes, compositions and colors. It also helps to have the attention span of a locust, an analogy you'll just have to work out for yourselves.

Happy Australia Day to all my bloggy buddies , especially my Aussie ones.

Where Was I, take dos

So...let's see if they have taken my five dollars and given me a bit more photo space. Who knew this day of paying to play, after 20 + years online, would come? But we'll (not quite the royal We; I include the cat) keep kicking the ball around awhile longer, because most of my world is too spilling over beautiful to keep inside one brain and soul.

The Awesomest thing in the whole world

Is Music. When asked what my favorite music genre is I can't answer 'cause I love all kinds!
I am pretty sure my absolute favorite is pop. All my favorite singers are pop singers: Demi Lovato , Taylor Swift, Avril Lavaigne, Kelly Clarkson, this list could probably go on. :D

I also like classical music: Beethoven , Vivialdi, Strauss ! Perfect music to dance to with siblings. And parents if they like to groove out with their kids. ;D
I also like Christian music especially : Newsboys , Sons of Korah , and Casting Crowns.
I also like some heavy metal but not a lot. I like all types of music rap , punk, hip- hop etc. I'll listen to any music as long as it has good lyrics and good music. Music awakens all my entire body, mind and soul, my ears, my heart is fed and nurtured , my mind is soothed , my body moves all over even now as I type listening to Demi Lovato's song "Party" my fingers and feet are dancing. And my head is bobbing to the rhythm.

If someone was to say to me " I hate Music" I would probably tell them they can't the birds make music as does the wind and in fact almost everything has a rhythm and melody if we search for it.
Even your day has a song, a rhythm , a melody search for it and find it I found mine today in schoolwork , chatting with my Mum and siblings , listening to others and in everything!

Find yours NOW!!!!!!!!!!! That's an order soldier! (kidding)   And if you are feeling down turn on that radio and sing and dance!!!!

Not as in 'where was I?' since I was right here on Culebra, but...it got a little whirlwindy around here, 'here' being my life, but in the good, busy way. So rather than bore you with a detailed account of activities not so terrifically interesting, except to me, I'll show you what I saw while I was away from the screen. If photos bore you, stop NOW!

National Hugging Day (no, really, it is!) Culebra style

We do a lot of hugging here on Culebra. Pretty much...all the time, in fact. I've had visitors at the cart ask how long it has been since I've seen so and so, who just came up for a hug, and I say...oh, yesterday afternoon? The look of slight puzzlement fades into a smile. Yes. This is a good thing!

The Wolf Moon and other ramblings

Last night was the apex of the Wolf Moon. I got a message from Dakity that it was big, it was beautiful and that I should be in my yard taking photos. In my yard, there was no moon in the sky. A long wait of  about 30 more minutes saw la bella luna crest my hill in its glory. By then it was only barely tinged with yellow, but it was still beautiful. Very beautiful. I did a little moon dance and

MAC Style Warriors

Last week I went to a MAC store and attended the Style Warriors Event which was by invitation only. They had yummy canapes, wonderful green tea and mint mojitos and of course new makeup for us to oogle over. I promised myself I wasn't going to go nuts and buy everything in site just because it was available to me. I bought the colors that I myself will use and that I think my brides are going to love and also what I would use for photo shoots. They had bronzers and shadows and liquid face highlighter and so on. Sometimes ladies the permanent colors are just repackaged so I made sure that I bought some different things. The most impressive and eye catching items for me were the Lustre Drops. The minute I saw them in preview pictures and I was itching to get my hands on those. I'm going to have fun with them this summer.

MAC's Face and Body Foundation

I've been using MAC's Face and Body Foundation or about two years now and it is one of my main go to foundations for summer. I typically prefer medium coverage in a foundation but, in hot and humid climates I prefer a lighter, more natural coverage and an oil-free, water based foundation. This particular product is great because it has buildable coverage for the face and body, meaning if you apply your foundation and find its too sheer just apply more on top until you get the coverage you desire and it still won't look heavy. Also, you can use a darker shade of foundation on your legs and body and rub it in and you get instant color. The Face and Body foundation is very easy to blend and its long-lasting. The consistency is almost water like when squeezed out from its nozzle tip but it quickly disappears into your skin once blended (see pic 2).

I use this foundation on brides quite often because it applies easily and can be manipulated depending on the type of applicator you use, whether it be a sponge wedge, a 187 or 190 brush or even your fingers. I love applying this with a drop or two of MAC's Strobe Liquid or Benefits High Beam, both of which add an angelic, sheer highlight to the face and shoulders, and collar bones, without looking powdery. You can even pour this liquid into an airbrush gun and it works perfectly. Although this foundation is very sheer looking it delivers professional results and it photographs beautifully.

This foundation is available in a wide range of colors and comes in a large 120ml bottle. Its only sold at MAC Stores and available on the MAC Pro website. Next time you are in a MAC store make sure to ask for a sample. As a side note, I have never experienced an acne breakout while using this foundation.

Challenges in daily life.

Each of us has challenges in life some bigger than others , some tiny and really insignificant but when can't deny what they are challenges.
Each day these challenges change, some days my biggest challenge is to get out of that heavenly , cloud like thing known commonly as "bed."  I then spend the rest of the day feeling like I won't accomplish anything today.  I feel sluggish and lazy. Not good!
Other days my challenge is to just be there for others regardless of what I want to do. This means helping younger siblings make their lunches, read them stories, sing them to sleep, and other big sister tasks which on days that I have a full day of this by the end of the day I feel hectic, tired and just plumb worn out. It also gets to a stage where I lose that hard to acquire virtue : patience.
My challenge on another day could be just to hold my tongue even when I feel a strong desire to speak.  Very hard to do!
Or sometimes  my challenge could be just listen to others and be a shoulder to cry and sigh on.
Challenges are God given gifts sent to strengthen us in all we do , they are mini missions  given us from "The Great General And King" to  his  secret agents below.
I  trust you will all do as I will and embrace the next  "mission" with joy and gladness knowing its a gift from the one who loves us most.

Some days, when errands and chores are half done (which is a pretty good score around here, especially on a holiday) you just have to succumb to a daytime moon. Much easier than trying to complete an entire errand...

Culebra Chickens and a Sunset to bring Peace to the World

Anyone who knows me or reads this blog much knows I'm a big defender of things Culebra. Chickens and roosters, parandas at 3 a.m. - that sort of thing. Well. That was BLS (or, BS for short) Before Leaving for the States. After almost nine years, I usually have only had chickens in my yard. You've seen them here. Once there was a rooster, but after I sawed off the limb he liked, he left. Then, I

About me and Random Rambling.

Okay, I just need to ramble and be a little random so please bear with me. I really don't know where this will go.  :D
I went to see Tangled today. What a fantastic movie!!!   It was much better then I expected it too be.   It was very eye popping in 3D.   Have I told you I like 3D???    Or maybe you already gathered that.
I have been writing frequently in my journal.  I feel like my journal is a dear friend who will guard  my thoughts , dreams , desires and feelings.  Thank God for journals!!!

I  have found some new Christian music I need to eventually get.      Have you ever felt a song you were listening to sink into your heart and speak to your soul, like it was written for  you!     Songs sooth my spirit when I'm mad . Help make me happy when I'm sad.   Give me something to dance to when I feel ecstatic and overjoyed.   Embrace my heart and heal old and new wounds.   Music is more than just music , a mere thing we listen to . To me it is a God given gift to His children.  Like a rare and precious gem entrusted to us.  I love music.

I often have bouts of depression , they can last several days , a few hours , under an hour.  They just happen and make me feel really down with , my family , my life , myself and everything in general.   They come unexpectedly and can be caused by just about everything.  A sentence someone says to me,   or just come and I can't tell you where they come from.   They make me feel insecure and unsure of everything,     I don't like being depressed as I am a happy person.

I  find the  most randomest things funny as my friends and family well know.    But, something has to be hysterical   to make me really laugh then I laugh for  ages and ages and I cry at the same time and have to wipe my eyes .   I love laughing.    Laughter is the best medicine they say.

I have trouble verbally expressing  exactly  how I feel  to a lot of people but have no trouble  expressing myself  with a pen .

Some days are soooooo hard to get through and I get to a stage at the end of the day where I don't really want to be touched and need to curl up in a ball in the dark and just feel quiet.    Are any of you the same?      Its surprising that I like curling up in the dark to calm down and feel better, as one of my few phobias is  Nyctophobia  .    a fear of the dark .  I shall list  my phobias here for your interest:

Nyctophobia.   A fear of the dark.
Arachnophobia.  Fear of spiders. Not as bad as it used to be though, thankfully.
Haptephobia.   A fear of being touched. Wikipedia says it is   "an acute exaggeration of the normal tendencies to protect one's personal space, expressed as a fear of contamination or of the invasion, and extending even to people whom its sufferers know well."   And   Claustrophobia.   A fear of small confined spaces.
You would have to be really close to me to know my phobias as I follow a quote from ' The Princess Diaries"  movies.
"Courage is not the absence of fear . But, rather the judgment that something is more important , then fear."        I will often hide my deep emotions from others  until   I break down or carefully, slowly, deliberately and  delicately tell them how I 'm feeling.

I'm not exactly sure why I am like this . I just am  God made me this way and i thank Him for doing so and making me , me.   This has been very tough for me to write, I have opened my heart  and told you some stuff not really well known about me .  Stuff I would not willingly tell you but, I believe in being sincere so I am telling you more about myself.  I hope you can relate to something about me.

Moisturizer Comparison: Hawaiian Tropic vs Jergens – Glow Naturally

jergens natural glow daily moisturizer

Spring brings the rains, the sounds of birds, gardening, and the smell of …. self-tanner? Most of us feel like we look slimmer and healthier with some tan, but aren’t willing to take the health risks of a natural tan. The goal is the look of a natural tan, which has not always been so easy to obtain. Self-tanners of years past left us blotchy, unnaturally colored, and with orange palms.

Jergens was the first on the market to introduce a gradual self-tanner, which you apply daily as a moisturizer, and gradually develop a natural-looking tan. Because of the series of applications, the chance of uneven coloring is slim, and the user can stop reduce frequency when the desired color is achieved. But is being the first the same as being the best?

All self-tanners work on the same concept. The key ingredient is dihydroxyacetone(DHA). DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead skin cells, a color change occurs. The longer you can keep your dead skin cells, the longer you can keep your tan – thus you should exfoliate before using a self-tanner product. All products instruct the customer to apply daily, and wait “several days” for the tan to develop. As long as moisturizer is applied evenly, any small differences will even out over the course of the repeated application, and the color result will be even.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer and Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer are similar to each other and other self-tanners in many respects, but there are two key differences: scent and color.

Scent

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is a good product, but it has one big problem: the smell. All self-tanner products have some (similar) odor due to the DHA ingredients used. The odor can be masked with other scents, as is typical for moisturizers, but when the pleasant scent dissipates, the DHA scent remains. In fact, this scent was bad enough that even I, who am unfortunately as pale as death, did not find it to be worth the trade-off. Even I, the uber-frugal, threw away the remainder of the tube of lotion.

The other manufacturers needed some time to catch up, but in my opinion the best alternative to Jergens is Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer. While it still has some of the unavoidable DHA order, the scent is not unpleasant. Or at least, it is relatively more pleasant than competing products. Scent is a personal opinion, but most people on http://makeupalley.com have compared it to green tea. Some even felt that it had no scent.

Color

Although it is the worse choice for scent, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer does provide more color with the same amount of application. This may the reason it has stronger scent. Most people do not feel this is a good trade-off, and simply use the “medium” tint of the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer lotion instead of “light”. Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer comes in light or medium only. Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer provides darker color and offers more choices. Natural Glow Daily Moisturize comes in fair, medium, and medium-tan (dark), and also offers additional products (not reviewed)

Product Line-up

Neither product is appropriate for using on your face, for most people, because it is designed as body lotion and too thick and clogs pores on the face. For the face Jergens makes a separate product, which I have not yet reviewed. Jergens makes Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer, which I have not reviewed. A third option in the Natural Glow line-up is the Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20.

Hawaiian Tropic does not make a self-tanner product designed for the face. There are no other products in the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer line-up.

Recommendation

I use and recommend the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer. The color of Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer is sufficient for me, and the scent of Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is a deal-breaker.

Moisturizer

The first day of summer technically hits on June 21, but you probably want to start changing your daily makeup routine right around, um… NOW. As the weather heats up, scale back on using heavy foundations, which can melt under the sweltering sun. (How messy would that be?) Instead, swipe on an ultra-light tinted moisturizer that will soak into skin and simultaneously even out your tone for a natural, I-don’t-even-have-to-try-to-look-this-good look.

Here’s two to try:

josie.jpg

Josie Maran Tinted Moisturizer, $38
This tinted moisturizer “with a conscience” contains organic ingredients, no parabens, and no artificial fragrances – just like the rest of Josie’s line. It also includes an added SPF 30 to ward off UVA and UVB rays, so you don’t have to take that extra sunscreen step every morning.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Tinted Moisturizer, $24.50
Swap your morning moisturizer for this tinted version with SPF 15. Made with apricot kernel extract, chamomile, and royal jelly, it absorbs quickly but leaves skin soothed, nourished, and unbelievably soft. Just find your nearest Kiehl’s counter and pick your shade: light, medium, or dark.

At Lavera, save 23% off select products with the code 23YEARS! You can see the specific products included in the sale here.

There are a few very good deals in there. I noticed a foundation that is already 70% off, plus another 23% off the clearance price. There are also some face creams (carrot cream and night cream), both 45/50% off already and eligible for the additional 23%. Definitely worth taking a look through to see if there is anything in there that you need!
